I found 5 rolls of film for £2 :)

Thu Dec 17, 2009, 7:00 PM
Nice!

Not so bad, because for the past few months I've been without a digital camera. You know how they say "If it ain't broke, don't fix it...?" well...it wasn't broken at that stage and...you get the idea.

On another note: Merry Christmas to all!

35mm update

Sun Aug 16, 2009, 3:55 PM
Already exhausted 3 rolls and the results so far have been mixed. My first roll was an expensive disappointment (as I suppose you'd expect) though I shouldn't have ordered the medium-sized prints and one-hour processing - now getting the smaller + 24-hour option (About £4 less)!

I'm discovering that a basic theory on f-stops and shutter speeds doesn't necessarily mean you know how to apply it!
Also, I've been taking notes on every photo as well as what I should've done to correct it. So:

My first roll was largely underexposed. (4a.m. during a powercut..)
Second roll was over.
The third was half under, half over(!)

Though in each roll there were at least a couple of successful, well-exposed shots.

I'll throw up some of the results in a while. About to develop the fourth roll and hoping for the best!

All the best!

35mm, baybeh!

Wed Jul 1, 2009, 5:30 PM
Yep, this week I've just started using me da's old Praktica MTL5 SLR. And I'm using film! Film!
I realised that instead of complaining that I can't afford a DSLR, I might as well learn how to use one first. And what better way to force yourself to think about every shot than using film?

Also, I now have more lenses at my disposal than I know what to do with! I love the 200mm zoom lens for taking shots of those tricksy animals which are too fast for my compact to focus on! Did I mention there's no auto-focus either? Also good for learning.

I've used about 15 shots now in about 3 days and I'm loving the precise control I have over depth of field, shutter speed, everything! It's great fun!

Gone AWOL

Yes, I've been away for a while. I haven't been very active on DA for ages, various commitments have been eating up some time (like trying to figure out if "commitments" has one "t" or two).
I'll be doing some last-minute and rushed projects over the next few months as I've nearly finished my course, but among them are photography projects, so I might have some new work up soon!

All the best!

Guitar Lessons! (at last!)

Sun Aug 3, 2008, 3:57 PM
Yep, after roughly 12 years of knowing how to correctly hold a guitar, 5 years of knowing how to read tablature, one year knowing how to fingerpick and a month and a half knowing flamenco triplets I've finally decided to get a guitar tutor!

Of course, I'm now learning completely different styles of playing! Namely, classical and flamenco, meaning I have to adjust my posture and get out of my 12-year acoustic-guitar-posture habit, break my thumb and relocate it so it sits correctly on the back of the neck and finally, glue a 6 inch block of wood to the bottom of my left foot so that I can sit properly.

This should prove interesting :)

I'm really excited about it! I'm looking forward to learning a lot. I've been playing for ages, but only other peoples' songs, either from tablature or chords. I really want to learn more about how to use scales and chord progressions, and most importantly for me; how to improvise!

I bought an "Espanish" guitar (an Admira Málaga [link]) a couple of months ago, immediately after finishing my Spanish exams (like an hour-and-a-half later!) and I've just been practicing different ways of playing since then.

Also, to build my vocab during my exam year, I kinda got addicted to learning Spanish language songs, so I've been playing them a lot on this guitar and also some songs just sound so much better on nylon strings!

The only problem is that I can't put the feckin thing down!
One of these nights I'll sleep, without having played the same Rodrigo y Gabriela song for 3 hours straight, trying to get the golpes just right!

Much love and respect to you, Gabriela...!

Well, tomorrow night is open mic, so a friend of mine(on electric) and myself (on acid - joke!) are gona sing for our supper...Guinness supper! ;) mmmm!

Have a good one!
