Guitar Lessons! (at last!)

Sun Aug 3, 2008, 3:57 PM
Yep, after roughly 12 years of knowing how to correctly hold a guitar, 5 years of knowing how to read tablature, one year knowing how to fingerpick and a month and a half knowing flamenco triplets I've finally decided to get a guitar tutor!

Of course, I'm now learning completely different styles of playing! Namely, classical and flamenco, meaning I have to adjust my posture and get out of my 12-year acoustic-guitar-posture habit, break my thumb and relocate it so it sits correctly on the back of the neck and finally, glue a 6 inch block of wood to the bottom of my left foot so that I can sit properly.

This should prove interesting :)

I'm really excited about it! I'm looking forward to learning a lot. I've been playing for ages, but only other peoples' songs, either from tablature or chords. I really want to learn more about how to use scales and chord progressions, and most importantly for me; how to improvise!

I bought an "Espanish" guitar (an Admira Málaga [link]) a couple of months ago, immediately after finishing my Spanish exams (like an hour-and-a-half later!) and I've just been practicing different ways of playing since then.

Also, to build my vocab during my exam year, I kinda got addicted to learning Spanish language songs, so I've been playing them a lot on this guitar and also some songs just sound so much better on nylon strings!

The only problem is that I can't put the feckin thing down!
One of these nights I'll sleep, without having played the same Rodrigo y Gabriela song for 3 hours straight, trying to get the golpes just right!

Much love and respect to you, Gabriela...!

Well, tomorrow night is open mic, so a friend of mine(on electric) and myself (on acid - joke!) are gona sing for our supper...Guinness supper! ;) mmmm!

Have a good one!

Damn it! I wanna learn guitar! My brothers all have some sort of musical inclination but I never got the chance to learn (youngest).

I have ne heard R y G in ages.. they did sound pretty awesome though.

Haha... now I've got a mental image of Gerald in Drunken Spanish mode singing along in gibberish while you play Spanish-soundin' musics. :D

Funny enough, that's exactly what happened tonight! Me and Matthew were doing 2 songs for open mic and Gerald was there and wanted to have a stab at Malagueña Salerosa from Kill Bill.
He did a pretty good job of it though! It was fun!:D
